Prepare and review complex development applications, including official plan amendments, zoning by-law amendments, site plan approvals, plans of subdivision, consents and minor variances
Review plans of survey, official plans and zoning by-laws to determine compliance with existing and proposed development
Prepare materials for council meetings committee meetings, committee of adjustment hearings, Local Planning Appeal Tribunal hearings and Toronto Local Appeal Body hearings
Research and review municipal and regional staff reports, planning studies, development proposals, by-laws, municipal and provincial files
Manage a range of development projects and act as a liaison between clients, municipal staff, developers, lawyers and members of the public
Prepare and review zoning compliance reports
Prepare memoranda on a variety of planning issues
Monitor new municipal policy initiatives and agendas/decisions of municipal councils and their committees
Attend meetings with clients, potential clients, consultants, elected officials and public sector planner
5+ years of relevant planning experience
University degree with a speciality in planning
Extensive experience with large-scale, complex development projects, including reviewing technical reports, architectural plans and technical drawings
Thorough knowledge of provincial and municipal planning legislation, including provincial policy statements, the Planning Act, official plans, zoning by-laws, design guidelines and other land use regulation instruments
Comprehensive understanding of current regulations and proposed policy changes
Demonstrated success in project management of complex development applications
Ability to determine if proposed developments comply with applicable regulations
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under time constraints
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
